Preparing for the COVID-19 Vaccine Rollout

With the Australian Government reporting that the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine is due to commence in March 2021, it’s important to consider whether or not our healthcare providers, their businesses and their teams are actually prepared and ready to deliver these vaccines safely and effectively.

If we look at what’s happening overseas in the UK and United States of America (USA), the rollout has required significant resources, planning and training with all those involved.  Not to mention all of the data entry requirements, tracking processes and workflow requirements designed to ensure those giving the vaccines are protected themselves, and avoiding transmission throughout their communities.  Add on top that this is a 2-part process, that must be followed to ensure effective immunisation rates adds significantly complexities to how this rollout will need to be handled by healthcare professionals.

So the question is, what are you doing to prepare for this and what does it look like?

It’s great to plan for what should happen, but what about planning if something goes wrong. These are all important areas and something that can’t be handled with a blanket solution.  Each health business is unique.  The layout, the workflow, the systems, the processes you employ – they are all unique.  Then add your team in the mix and you’ve got a plethora of things to consider.

Our top tip… Start planning now and involve your entire team in the process. With planning will come a strategy, and with that will come the confidence required to effectively and efficiently manage what’s going to be the largest vaccination process ever seen in Australian history!
